David has worked in East Dulwich as a portrait photographer since 1996.
Successful in both his chosen careers, as a portrait photographer and as a musician/composer, David has been on both sides of the camera since he was a small boy. Raised in Hollywood in a family of artists and actors, he was on stage from an early age as a virtuoso guitarist and has worked with, amongst many others, Mae West, David Bowie, Agnetta and Marc Bolan.
Always unconventional, David started Family Portraits - an exclusively black and white film and darkroom photographic business. With the advent of digital imagery, David waited until he felt the quality achievable was greater than what was previously possible in his darkroom.
Taking up the camera at the start of the 80s, David was trained by two highly respected practitioners of the black and white film tradition - John Blakemore and Michael Birt. His work as both an artist and documentary anthropological photographer is widely collected and exhibited world-wide.
Currently one of the UK's finest printers - a certified Digigraphie printer and artist - his unique style, technical excellence and relaxed studio manner attract a clientele who come back year after year for quality work, portraits which are informed by years of living both behind and in the glare of the spotlight.
I've been a family portrait photographer in east Dulwich for 17 years. To begin with, I worked exclusively with black and white film. Now I create cinematic alternative family portraits. I decided at the beginning that I wanted to keep things relaxed and low key which is why I work from a studio in my home - most of us feel less intimidated when the setting is just like visiting friends. Quality of the highest level in eveything I do has always been my motto and guiding principle as a photographer. Please check out my review/portraits gallery for customers comments! David
