Tomorrow never comes. We all know that but it's easy to forget when you're trying to achieve something that's proving elusive and you're losing patience.

Patience - one of the main qualities a photographer needs, especially when working with children and families.

I remember one particular shoot that felt uncomfortable to me. I couldn't put my finger on the reason. Five years later, the same family returned for another sitting . . . but this time without the father. The first time around was just before they decided to get divorced. No wonder we were all struggling to 'get that shot'!

The years I spent qualifying as a therapist have helped my ability to be in difficult waters and help everyone to swim the needed distance. I sometimes think that's as important as being able to judge a good angle or the right moment to press the shutter!
